I Hold In My Hand

I hold in my hand past, present and future
the weight of which is heavy but simple.
I see a sky above the thick clouds of grey
where stars smile and friendships rekindle.

I hold in my hand the life of a child
and years that are lost between each kiss.
I hear joy and sorrow on a nearby playground
with empty swings that are motionless and missed.

I hold in my hand the keys to succeed
a strong grip that endures unwanted labor
a choice to live each day within my means
and to grant my fellow man unmerited favor.

Rested
I hold in my hand the hand of another
who’s grasp will never waver.
            eternally
                        my Friend, my Savior.
